Brits cruising for a bruising

Royal Caribbean International showed its caring side recently with a mercy dash to Cyprus to save the life of a pregnant woman during its inaugural Royal Journeys cruise.

The woman had an ectopic pregnancy en route from Haifa, Israel, to Istanbul and the ship’s captain decided to reroute to Limassol to transfer the woman to hospital.

The upshot was that the planned excursion to Istanbul had to be cancelled as the ship could only make Turkish port Kusadasi in the allotted time.

Staff reported there were some complaints from passengers until they heard the reason for the itinerary switch.

But Brits expressed only relief at not going to Istanbul. They were due there the night before Istanbul’s Galatasaray played their return game with Leeds and didn’t fancy a run-in with angry football supporters.
