Revised ABTA board sets meeting

ABTA’s new board will meet for the first time this week as the association prepares to enter its new era.

The 18-strong body, which replaces the old Travel Agents’ and Tour Operators’ Councils, stages its inaugural meeting on Wednesday.

The newly formed council of regions meets tomorrow for the first time.

Retailers on the 18-strong board are St Andrews Travel managing director Andrew Dickson; Majestic Travel managing director Steven Freudmann; ARTAC chairman Colin Heal; Personal Service Travel managing director Martin Wellings; Bath Travel joint managing director Stephen Bath; Thomas Cook commercial director Mike Beaumont; and Lunn Poly head of buying Mark Pritchard.

The chairman and vice-chairman of the council of regions – who will be elected tomorrow – will also join the board.

The nine tour-operating seats on the board have been taken by Carefree Travel International managing director Angelo Carraro; Travel Club of Upminster director Paul Chandler; Sunquest Holidays national sales and marketing manager Paul Cowley; Travelscene sales director John Harding; International Life Leisure chairman Warren Sandral; Airtours head of legal affairs Andy Cooper; P&O Cruises managing director Gwyn Hughes; Thomson holidays service UK director John de Vial; and First Choice sales and distribution director John Wimbleton.
