Delta plans 90% summer 2022 transatlantic capacity hike

Delta Air Line’s summer 2022 transatlantic schedule will jump 90% in additional capacity over this year.

The airline plans to operate up to 73 daily flights to 25 destinations from ten US gateway cities.

A total of 21 US cities will be served when Delta’s partners Air France, KLM and Virgin Atlantic are included.

Edinburgh will see Delta flights return to New York JFK with five Boeing 767 departures a week from May 1.

The Scottish capital will also regain service to Boston from May 27 with five flights a week.

Extra frequency will be added between Heathrow and New York while service from Dublin will be upgraded to Airbus A330 aircraft.

Atlanta will be served twice daily from London and will have a link to the Irish capital.

Service is also being restored to Brussels, Copenhagen, Munich, Prague and Zurich.

All European flights will feature the airline’s premium economy cabin for the first time since its debut in 2017.

Network planning senior vice president Joe Esposito said: “We’re focused on bringing back the routes and destinations our customers love, so they enjoy easy, convenient access to a comprehensive, far-reaching network throughout Europe and its neighbouring regions.

“With the lifting of restrictions to the U. and abroad, plus growing vaccination rates and tremendous pent-up demand, travel to Europe is expected to surge next summer.”
