Eurowings to start Birmingham route to new Stockholm base

A Birmingham-Stockholm route is planned next summer as German low-cost carrier Eurowings establishes a base at the Swedish capital.

Flights are due to start in March 2022 from the carrier’s 11th base in Europe and fifth outside Germany after Palma, Prague, Pristina and Salzburg.

Eurowings plans a network of 20 routes from Stockholm from March 27, 2022.

These include sun destinations such as Alicante, Faro, Palma and Nice together with cities including Birmingham, Berlin, Barcelona, Gdansk and Pristina, the capital of Kosovo.

Further destinations are due to be announced in the next few weeks.

The airline is initially recruiting for 100 cabin crew and 50 pilots for the Stockholm operation.

Crews from Eurowings Europe in Vienna will initially be deployed to Stockholm for the start-up.

In the medium-term, flights will be operated entirely by locally based crews.

Airline managing director Robert Jahn said: “Shortly after opening our base in Prague, we are now delighted to be driving pan-European growth in northern Europe as well.

“With the creation of local jobs, I am pleased to welcome more colleagues to the team. In particular, I would also like to encourage internal colleagues to transfer, so that we can carry our Eurowings DNA as an innovative and customer-focused team into the new base right from the start.”
