Staff were working overnight in an effort to enable the airport to resume operations.

The closure followed heavy rain which let to flooding affecting the terminal.

Flights to Jersey, Newcastle, Lanzarote, Edinburgh and Guernsey were cancelled.

In a statement issued last night, Exeter airport said: “Following this afternoon’s flash flooding, which caused the closure of the airport, our teams are working through the night clearing up and we expect to be open tomorrow morning, Monday 18 September.

“Passengers are advised to check with their airline for the very latest information about their flight, and please bear with us while we do our very best to return all airport operations to normal.”

The flooding came as yellow weather warnings were issued for much of the southwest on Sunday.
