Hotelshop works with Positive Planet to host carbon literacy course

Hotelshop UK – the parent company of Great Little Breaks – has organised a carbon literacy course aimed at travel and tourism professionals.

It has worked with net zero advisory firm Positive Planet to develop the day-long course, which takes place on April 10 at Cardiff City Stadium, at a subsidised rate of £99 + VAT.

Carbon literacy training provides organisations with an awareness of the climate-related costs and impacts of their activities and the ability and motivation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Diana Evans, Hotelshop UK group managing director, said: “The carbon literacy training course is specifically written and aimed at the travel and tourism sector.

“We want to share this knowledge with our travel peers as we feel it is so important in the climate crisis fight.”

She said other carbon literacy courses for travel can cost between £300-£500 but this one is just £99 per delegate.

“We didn’t want price to be an obstacle so, along with Positive Planet, we are subsidising the cost of this travel-and-tourism aligned one-day workshop,” she said.

The course includes lunch and certification – and one tree will be planted per delegate.

She added: “Sustainability is a critical part of our business operations.

“Here at Great Little Breaks, we do quite a lot behind the scenes in our carbon reduction efforts.”

Among its various sustainability initiatives, the company recently became a ‘Silver Accredited’ organisation with the Carbon Literacy Project.

Evans said carbon literacy training helps to change the behaviours and culture of individuals and companies, adding: “Evidence shows that a carbon certified individual –someone that attends the day-long workshop – reduces their own carbon footprint by 5-15%.”
