Jet2.com has added seven extra departures to Rome to meet demand for travel to the Ryder Cup in 2023.
The airline has put on additional capacity from Birmingham, Stansted and Manchester after reporting strong bookings around the dates of the golf tournament at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club on the outskirts of Rome. It already operates flights to Rome from six UK airports during the event.
The new flights are on September 27 and October 2 next year out of Birmingham; September 26, October 2, and October 3 out of Manchester; and on September 27 and October 2 out of Stansted.
The additional flights mean Jet2.com will now operate 27 weekly flights from the UK to Rome during the tournament to see Europe take on the US.
This is made up of six services from Birmingham during the week of the Ryder Cup; nine out of Manchester; and six out of Stansted; as well as two out of Glasgow; two out of Leeds Bradford and two out of Newcastle International.
Chief executive Steve Heapy said seats were expected to sell fast based on current demand.
He said: “Next year’s Ryder Cup in Rome is a huge global sporting event, and the number of bookings we are seeing shows just how hotly-anticipated the tournament is.
“With so many people wanting to fly to Rome to witness the action in person, we have moved quickly to provide even more choice for customers and independent travel agents.”
