Warning of ‘collateral threat’ to airlines amid Israel-Gaza conflict

The Foreign Office has warned of a “collateral threat” to commercial aviation or disruption to scheduled services due to rocket fire between Israel and Gaza.

The updated travel advice for both Israel and the Occupied Palestine Territories said: “Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.

“Attacks could be indiscriminate, including places visited by foreigners including the Old City in Jerusalem, on public transport, and in busy public spaces.

“There have been repeated instances of rocket fire from Gaza, which may occur well beyond the Gaza border area; Israel has often responded with air strikes into Gaza.

“Rocket fire may present a collateral threat to commercial aviation, or cause disruption to scheduled services.

“You should co-operate fully with security officials at airports and observe any additional security measures. You should check with your airline for any updates prior to travel.”

The Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office urged travellers to ensure they are aware of Israeli immigration policies.

“Allow extra time for increased security measures and checks at airports during Israeli holidays and during the summer tourist season,” the travel advice added.

“The security situation in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories can be fast moving, tense and unpredictable. You should be vigilant at all times and keep up to date with local media and travel reports.”
