Royal Caribbean to relax onboard mask policy

Royal Caribbean is to ease its onboard mask policy for passengers from next week.

From Monday (February 14), face coverings will no longer be required in public areas such as select bars, lounges, restaurants and shows designated for fully vaccinated passengers on the line’s US-based ships.

Masks must still be worn indoors, unless seated or eating or drinking, and when visiting ports of call, according to Royal’s website.

Passengers under the age of two do not need to wear a mask.

On European departures this year, Royal said: “At this time, we have not yet determined our health and safety protocols for 2022 sailings departing from Europe.

“Guests will be advised of specific requirements via email before setting sail.”

The policy change comes a day after NCL announced it was removing its requirement for passengers to wear face coverings on sailings out of US ports.

NCL’s new policy comes into effect on March 1.
