Two Crystal Cruises ships sold for $128m

The sale of two Crystal Cruises ships has been completed at auction for a combined $128 million.

Crystal Symphony, which entered service in 1996, was sold for a reported $25 million and 19-year-old Crystal Serenity for $103 million.

They were detained in the Bahamas after the collapse of partner company Genting Hong Kong earlier in the year.

The Tribune in the Bahamas reported that the buyer is believed to be based in London but details were not disclosed.

The Supreme Court in the Bahamas undertook the sale of the two luxury ocean-going vessels after the failure of Genting.

Former Silversea Cruises owner Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio is believed to have been among the bidders alongside a major firm in the cruise sector.

Expedition ship Crystal Endeavor is said to have attracted the most attention from potential suitors, with Royal Caribbean Group luxury brand Silversea tipped as a possible buyer.

Crystal Cruises also had river vessels that operated in Europe that are also believed to be for sale.
