‘Britons turn to pandemic savings to fund future holidays’

Around 40% of Britons are planning to splash cash saved up during the Covid-19 pandemic on holidays, according to new research.

Travel insurance provider battleface commissioned research into Britons’ spending habits and found that half of this country’s population have been saving more over the last 16 months.

Research also showed that more than a third (38%) of adults reported that their next international holiday was planned for 2022 and nearly a third (28%) were looking at 2023 for their next overseas break.

More than three fifths (61%) are planning to travel to UK destinations this summer, while 34% of those quizzed want to take longer holidays than before the pandemic.

The study of 2,000 UK-based adults was carried out between June 11 and 15 on behalf of battleface.

Katie Crowe, of battleface, said it was clear that the pandemic had impacted how people want to travel in the future.

She said: “Many Brits are uncertain about travelling abroad this summer and it is not surprising that many families are looking to 2022 and 2023 for their next trip.

“Families are choosing to save for future holidays, where they will want to spend more and stay away for a longer period.”
