Industry leaders honoured at Global Travel Hall of Fame

Five industry leaders have been inducted into the Global Travel Hall of Fame, after their original entries were postponed due to the Covid pandemic.

The event took place on Thursday evening at London’s The Chesterfield hotel, in partnership with The Travel Corporation, parent company of the hotel’s owner Red Carnation Hotels.

The Global Travel Hall of Fame – formerly known as the British Travel & Hospitality Hall of Fame – recognises excellence and contribution to the industry in the UK and worldwide and is part of the portfolio of Travel Weekly owner Jacobs Media Group.

The 2022 inductees, originally announced in 2020, were Jamaican tourism minister Edmund Bartlett; Fiona Jeffery, former World Travel Market managing director and founder of industry charity Just A Drop; past president and chief executive of Azamara, SeaDream Yacht Club, Cunard & Seabourn Cruise Line, Larry Pimentel; On The Beach founder and chief executive Simon Cooper; and Bill Toner, chief executive of catering giant CH&Co.

In addition to the inductions, a Sustainable Business Award was presented to G Adventures in recognition of its ongoing efforts.

Clive Jacobs, chairman of Jacobs Media Group, said: “Entry into the Global Travel Hall of Fame remains the highest accolade in the travel, tourism, hospitality and leisure sectors and is bestowed on only the most successful and remarkable individuals.

“I would like to offer my sincere congratulations and thanks to the 2020 award winners and inductees who we are celebrating tonight.”

Speaking before the event, Brett Tollman, chief executive of The Travel Corporation, said: “We are very excited about this new partnership. TTC and Red Carnation Hotels have always had a great affinity with the UK, doing business here and supporting our great industry.

“We look forward to recognising this years’ inductees and continuing this long-term relationship with Jacobs Media Group and the Global Travel Hall of Fame.”
