Adventure Tours UK is encouraging holidaymakers to become more involved in its projects to help the environment.
The tour operator, which is keen to increase its trade sales, already plants one tree for each customer who books.
It is now allowing clients to add extra trees to their booking for £5 a tree when booking through a travel agent or online and is encouraging clients to become volunteers at a woodland project it is involved in.
It will be holding ‘maintenance days’ where customers can join staff at Ty’n-y-pistyll in Moel Famau Country Park as tree care volunteers. Each November it will undertake another round of tree planting at the park where guests can help out.
The initiatives follow a partnership between the operator and the Clwydian Range & Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) to support the woodland project. Last year staff from the company planted 185 native trees at the park.
The company recently sent staff back to the area for a team bonding day as part of its commitment to help the local community and combat climate change.
Staff spent the day beating back the bracken to give the young trees the space and light they need to thrive.
Adventure Tours co-founder Claire Copeman said: “By planting native trees in our local area of north east Wales, we can help to combat climate change and create positive benefits for our local community”.
Speaking about the team’s return to look after the trees, she added: “It was great to return to the woodland area of Ty’n-y-pistyll with the whole team and our AONB Countryside Rangers to see how our saplings were doing.
“As a company we are passionate about this project so it was wonderful to find our tiny young trees thriving. We all got to work locating our native trees and clearing out the overgrown bracken so our little saplings can continue to reach for the sky!”
The operator, set up in 2018, offers multi-day active adventures across the whole of the UK that immerse clients in local culture and heritage. Earlier this year it brought out a carbon report outlining its commitment to the environment.
