Three writers from the Travel Weekly Group have swept the board in the Travel Trade Writer of the Year category at the Aito Travel Writer of the Year Awards 2020.
Hollie-Rae Brader, editor of Aspire, took the top honour for her article about wildlife in the Galapagos Islands and her colleague Erica Bush, Aspire features writer, was third, with her article about a retreat in the Himalayas.
Katie McGonagle, Travel Weekly features and supplements editor, came second with a feature about adventuring through Canada by train on the Rocky Mountaineer.
McGonagle said: “It’s a real honour to be recognised alongside my colleagues on Aspire in these prestigious Aito awards, which highlight some of the best travel writing in the country.
“I’ve been incredibly proud that Travel Weekly continued to publish destination features throughout the pandemic, when we all needed a bit of inspiration to remind us of the wonderful industry we work in and the fantastic experiences travel can offer.”
Bush added: “I’m delighted to be recognised by Aito in the Travel Trade Writer of the Year category and even happier it’s alongside my talented colleagues Hollie and Katie. Well done to everyone involved.”
More than 300 articles were submitted to Aito’s Travel Writer of the Year Awards, and judges said they were “very impressed by the quality of writing and the wide range of destinations and subject matter”.
