Tui Care Foundation to help protect endangered species in Kenya and Costa Rica

Two new wildlife protection projects in Kenya and Costa Rica are being tackled by the Tui Care Foundation.

Newly-created Tui Wildlife Kenya will see five endangered species will be protected during a three-year project, including elephants, giraffes, lions, cheetahs and pangolins.

Water access will be improved through separate infrastructures and two boreholes to secure a supply for more than 20,000 people in the Tsavo region after experiencing a severe year-long drought.

Around 300 members of local communities in Tsavo will receive training in “climate-smart” agriculture and in marketing their authentic products to the tourism industry.

Tui Wildlife Costa Rica aims to protect an area around Barbilla National Park, the habitat of a variety of species, including the endangered Great Green Macaw and Lemur Leaf Frog.

The three-year scheme will see 4,000 tress planted and nesting boxes installed in an area of rainforests that has suffered from significant deforestation.

The project will create a number of frog pools to support the endangered Lemur Leaf Frog that has been successfully reintroduced into the area over recent years.

Local rangers will be trained to conserve the flora and fauna of the rainforest.

Tourists and the local community will have the opportunity to observe and explore the ecosystem through walking tours.
