InteleTravel UK reports 40% membership growth during pandemic

InteleTravel says its recruits in the UK have made £2.7 million worth of sales so far this year and that its membership has grown 40% since the start of the pandemic.

The homeworking group, which was granted an Abta licence in 2019, says it now has 10,700 travel agents registered in the UK.

It said 95% of bookings its members have made in 2021 are for August onwards, and £485,000 of the £2.7 million of sales (nearly 18%) had been booked with one accommodation provider.

Popular destinations for its members’ bookings include the UK, US, the Mediterranean and the United Arab Emirates.

Its average transaction value was £1,630, almost double the £834 a year ago, the group reported, which it put down to a rise in bookings of ‘upmarket holidays’.

InteleTravel ‘addresses’ recruit’s Atol error

Dividing the total sales figure by the number of recruits suggests InteleTravel agents have sold just over £250 worth of travel each, on average, this year.

But the group said judging performance that way was “bad maths” because of “our unique business model”, said new recruits spend time training before selling and noted “many others only work part-time as an agent”.

It gave some examples of ‘star performers’ among its recruits.

They include David Leyshon, who as DTL Travel in Pontypridd, Wales, booked £60,000 worth of travel in January; Doncaster-based Gemma Spinks, of Gems Luxury Travel, who sold more than £25,000 worth of travel in January (including a £23,000 family trip to Florida in October).

Other ‘star performers’ include Hampshire-based Isabella Davis, who made her first booking for a £55,560 trip for her family, having joined InteleTravel in December; and Essex-based Paul Kelbie, behind The Jetset Lifestyle, who sold £15,000 worth of trips to Santorini and Dubai in January.

InteleTravel president and founder James Ferrara said: “Every day I am humbled by the creativity and performance of our agents.

“A unique strength of our model is finding and developing new talent from all walks of life. We know how much pent-up demand there is to travel, so we expect our agents to go from strength to strength as the year progresses.”

He added: “Our homeworking model has become very attractive to people in these changing times.”
