Norwegian Prima has ‘elevated NCL quality’

Norwegian Prima has raised the bar for the line’s ships, said Gary Anslow, senior director of sales at Norwegian Cruise Line, as the ship continues on a voyage to northern Europe after its weekend christening.

“It’s a truly special ship. I think it’s very different, it’s elevated the NCL quality,” he said. “The space is amazing; the venues are amazing. The amount of thought, the amount of design that’s gone into every space is I think unlike any other cruise ship I’ve been on.”

Norwegian Prima was christened in Reykjavik, Iceland, on Saturday with godmother popstar Katy Perry naming the ship.

Around 2,500 passengers are on board for the christening and subsequent sailing, to Amsterdam, via Cork, Portland and Le Havre, including just under 200 UK agents.

“When we put Prima on sale, it was our best ever single sales day in the history of the company,” said Anslow.

Norwegian Prima is the first in what will be six ships in the new Prima class. The next ship, Norwegian Viva, is due to be delivered next August, somewhere in Europe.

Agents on board have already praised the ship.

Dame Irene Hays, chair of Hays Travel, said: “I think the ship is outstanding, I think it has such a distinctive personality.”

Simone Clark, senior vice president of global supply at Iglu.com, said the ship is “modern” and “very stylish.”

“I love the fact there’s so many small, intimate areas,” she said. “It’s a beautiful design.”

Inaugural voyages by the 3,100-capacity ship will start on September 3, visiting northern Europe from England, Denmark and the Netherlands, before relocating to the US in October.

Norwegian Prima offers the highest staffing levels and space ratio of any contemporary or premium cruise ship, according to NCL.
