Costa axes plans to showcase new ship in UK

COSTA Cruises has cancelled plans to showcase its new ship Costa Atlantica in the UK, prior to its inaugural cruise out of Venice.

Delays to the completion of the ship in a Helsinki shipyard mean it will not be able to stop off in Dover on its way to Italy as expected.

However, the cruiseline will be inviting a group of agents to Venice to see Costa Atlantica before it departs on its maiden voyage.

The cruise is set to go ahead on July 16 as scheduled. Costa has just published its winter 2000/01 brochure, which features a series of alternating eastern and western Caribbean cruises on Costa Atlantica. Prices lead in at £1,370 for a nine-night flycruise out of Fort Lauderdale.

Meanwhile, Costa is repeating its South American programme for a second year with four cruises on Costa Allegra and Costa Marina. An 11-night flycruise on Costa Allegra leads in at £1,580 per person.
