Mandarin Oriental signs STSN deal for fast Internet access
MANDARIN Oriental is planning to offer Internet access up to 300 times faster than normal modems in hotel rooms across the group. The initiative follows a deal with technology provider STSN, which specialises in broadband Internet access. This allows users to access and use the Internet at far higher speeds than standard, dial-up modems.
Mandarin Oriental’s guests will be able to use broadband through their own laptops. As well as allowing them to browse the Internet and send e-mails, the system will also allow them to print and send faxes.
Technology director Nick Price said: “With STSN, our goal is to create a remote office environment that is no less functional than the office our guest has just left. Our delivery of high-speed Internet access to the guest room is the first step along this path.”
In addition, Mandarin Oriental will be installing the STSN system in all its meeting rooms. This will provide guests with an interactive conferencing service.
STSN is developing a customer Web site for every hotel in the Mandarin Oriental group. The company operates 10 properties in Asia, seven in North America and four in Europe. Two others, in Miami and New York, are currently under development.
