* ebookers expands
Ebookers.com is to buy its parent firm Flightbookers for £10 million. Ebookers chairman and chief executive Dinesh Dhamija, who is also chairman and managing director of Flightbookers, will remain with the merged company and said he does not expect redundancies. Dhamija said the acquisition will improve customer service by giving Ebookers more product control. Dhamija also hopes to exploit Flightbookers’ 220,000-strong customer base.
* kuoni rejects deal
Kuoni has ruled itself out of a three-way deal with Carlson and Thomas Cook if German operator C&N Touristic pulls out, analysts have said. The City has also said C&N can afford to buy Airtours but is still unwilling to pay the asking price which is believed to be around 300p a share.
* hoseasons joins tipto
The Truly Independent Professional Travel Organisation has accepted Hoseasons as the member of its self-drive Europe category. Hoseasons’ membership follows Fred Olsen Cruise Lines filling TIPTO’s cruising vacancy last month. Membership of TIPTO gives specialist operators access to jointly funded activities, including promotional events and training aimed at independent agents.
* P&O office move
P&O Cruises and sister company Princess Cruises are moving from their London office to a new base in Southampton.The London staff havebeen offered the chanceto relocate to Southampton and recruitment for 39 extra posts has begun. The new offices will be operational by December.
