USVIs decide not to exhibit at trade event

the US Virgin Islands has has decided not to exhibit in the Caribbean Village at Earl’s Court for the second year running.

A new commissioner of tourism for the US-owned islands, Rafael Jackson, was only appointed in June this year – following 18 months of political wrangling.

However, the new appointment came too late to authorise the cost of the show in this year’s budget.

However, a spokesperson for the USVIs UK tourist office promised that the destination would continue to participate in other Caribbean events.

“Promotional activities for the remainder of the year and events coming up in the future include participation in the CTO’s roadshows in November and numerous dive shows around the UK,” said the spokesperson.

Last year, although the USVIs did not take its own stand among the other islands in the Caribbean Village, the destination was represented in the US section of WTM.

The US-owned Spanish Caribbean island of Puerto Rico has also decided not to exhibit at this year’s event.

Operators that feature the USVIs include British Airways Holidays, Caribbean Connections, Complete Caribbean, Elegant Resorts and Jetset.
