SIA to offer in-flight e-mail
SINGAPORE Airlines has launched what it claims is the world’s first in-flight e-mail system for passengers in all classes.
In-flight e-mail will be available on SIA’s fleet of Boeing 747s and Boeing 777s over the next 12 to 14 months, but as yet there are no details of the first flight to offer the facilities ex-UK. E-mail is currently available on a Boeing 747-400 aircraft for passengers using the Singapore-Los Angeles service.
In addition to the system, SIAwill offer passengers web access through a number of downloaded web pages. Last July, SIAlaunched a flight alert messaging service that informed passengers of changes to departures and arrival times via e-mail, mobiles or pagers (Travel Weekly July 10 2000).
