Charities benefit from marathon achievements

LAST word will keep away from clichés about marathon efforts, but congratulations to Independent Coach Travel director Stephen Moore and Holiday Hypermarkets managing director John Donnelly, who raised thousands for charity by completing the Flora London Marathon.

Moore, who finished the run in five-and-a-half hours, raised an impressive £7,500 for Whizz-Kidz, which provides wheelchairs and other mobility equipment for children with disabilities.

Some of the money came for individual sponsors, while big-hearted members of the Association of British Tour Operators to France donated the rest.

Moore said: “I am delighted with the sum raised.”

Donnelly managed to raise £3,500 for the Visually Impaired Children Taking Action charity.

He completed the marathon in six-and-a-half hours, despite suffering a knee injury.

“VICTA does a lot of great work for children. It is not as well known as some other causes, so it needs all the help it can get,” he said.
