RYANAIR has advised agents to consider quitting the no-frills
airline market as the feud between the airline and retailers rumbles on.
In a robust speech to 300 delegates at the Advantage
conference in Ireland, Ryanair sales and marketing director Tim Jeans defended
the carrier’s decision not to pay commission on Passenger Service Charges.
He also attacked ABTA for being resistant to change.
He said: “Just because British Airways lost the Passenger
service Charge case, ABTA feels we should roll over. The fact 115 airlines have
done that is no concern to us. We wouldn’t be the profitable airline we are
today if we followed what other airlines do.”
Jeans added: “Being a travel agent is a difficult business,
I believe the low-fares business is one you should think seriously think about
exiting from.”
