THE SRI Lanka Tourist Board is planning to spend hundreds of
thousands on a new campaign to woo tourists back to the country following last
month’s airport attack.
Government officials and industry representatives have met
in the country’s capital, Colombo, to hammer out the details of the marketing
campaign, while Sri Lanka Tourist Board director Ranjit de Silva and Sri Lanka’s
High Commissioner in London called an emergency meeting of tour operators for
ideas on how to revive the tourism industry.
“We were planning a three-year marketing push for Sri Lanka
next January, but that was before this incident,” de Silva explained. “I would
think we’ll spend more than £100,000 to get our message across.”
