BMI BRITISH midland is expected to shed 600 jobs following last
month’s suicide hijackings in the US.
The staff are to go as the airline is to withdraw eight of
its 62 aircraft from service and cut seat capacity by 20% for its winter
schedule.
BMI chairman Sir Michael Bishop said: “I am hopeful that
because of the business decisions that we have been taking for some time to
reduce our cost base, we will not need to consider further job losses. However,
worldwide events continue to have a serious impact on the aviation industry in
general, and we will continue to review our situation on a regular basis.”
