Travelscene goes low-cost

By Juliet Dennis

TRAVELSCENE is to sell low-cost packages for the first
time.

The short-break specialist will run the programme,
called Travelscene low cost (Tlc), separately to its core city packages
portfolio.

Travelscene sales director John Harding said travel
agents would be paid a flat commission rate of 10% for bookings, with all the
necessary bonding provided.

He added the service could help agents who faced the
prospect of new legislation forcing them to take out bonding for tailor-making
their own no-frills packages.

He said: “On an
individual basis this can’t be a highly profitable business for agents and with
the coming requirement to pay for bonding it could be very costly. This will
ensure retailers can continue to secure the business in this sector and net the
commission.”
