ABTA
is set to confirm Orlando as the host destination for next year’s convention.
It
will get the nod from Newman Street directors after officials made a final
visit to the destination last week (Travel Weekly September 1).
The
event will take place over Thanksgiving at the end of November, later than
normal.
“Orlando
has put together an attractive proposal that will be popular with operators,
agents and suppliers,” said a spokesman. “After Cairo we surveyed delegates and
Orlando was the number one choice of operators and the second of agents. It is
a quality destination, there are plenty of charter and scheduled flights and
Orlando is a major destination from the UK.”
Although
the choice would not fit ABTA’s policy that a host destination should be within
five hours’ flying time of the UK, Orlando was always regarded as the exception
to that rule.
