THE
World Travel and Tourism Council is taking over control of the annual Tourism
for Tomorrow awards scheme from British Airways.
The
awards – which recognise responsible tourism projects around the globe – will
not take place next year. Instead, a new-look programme will
be
unveiled at the WTTC conference in Qatar next May in preparation for 2005.
BA
started the awards 11 years ago and will continue to co-sponsor the event. The
switch is aimed at giving the competition a higher profile.
This
year’s overall winner, unveiled last week, was the Bunaken marine park in
Indonesia.
