Silverjet passenger numbers up by more than one third

Silverjet reported a 38% increase in passengers in October to almost 6,800 following the launch of a second daily London Luton-New York Newark service the previous month.

Chief executive Lawrence Hunt expressed increasing confidence the business-only carrier will move into profit within six months, with a service to Dubai due for launch on November 18 and a third route to be announced early next year.

The carrier is also close to finalising a deal for its fourth and fifth aircraft, to be delivered in March.

Silverjet’s average load factor of 58.5% for October remains low by the standards of most airlines, but all its passengers pay a business class fare – albeit at a lower price than rivals such as British Airways.

Hunt said: “We continue to experience strong growth in yields month on month. Forward bookings are encouraging and we are confident load factors will increase as the second daily service to New York becomes more established.”
