THE long planned codeshare alliance between British Airways and American Airlines is believed to be close to being wrecked by US politicians.
The main reason behind the scuttling of the deal, first unveiled four years ago, is understood to be BA’s blocking of more access at Heathrow to rival carriers.
US officials are demanding slots for additional US carriers at Heathrow in return for greater access to US markets.
A spokesman for BA said the airline had yet to be told the deal was off, saying a review of the alliance was continuing.
A decision to allow widespread transatlantic codesharing was due this month.
