Baggage handlers and check-in staff employed by Swissport at Manchester Airport have voted to strike over pay.
Two 24 hour strikes are set to take place on August 27 and September 1. The strike will impact all baggage handling and check-in for airlines including Air France, KLM, Monarch, Emirates and Virgin Atlantic plus some smaller airlines.
The news followed a vote by Swissport staff for strike action at both Gatwick and Stansted over the bank holiday weekend on 25 and 29 August.
Unite regional officer for Manchester Mick Whitley said: “Swissport’s intention to cut our members’ sick pay and offer a paltry wage deal when food and energy costs are spiralling is unaccepteble. The staff working for Manchester Airport are making it abundantly clear they will not accept.”
