Cultural Capital


Prague is staging a series of special events to mark the city’s nomination among the nine European Cities of Culture for 2000. They will be held at venues throughout the city. Highlights include:


International Festival of Brass Band Music (January 6-8).


International Week of Dance (January 8-16, November24-29).


Prague Spring International Music Festival (May 12-June 3).


Festival of Street Theatre (June-September).


First European Folklore Festival (July 6-9).


Luqhnasadh 2000, a thematic exhibition of Celtic heritage (July 31-August 30).


International Organ Festival (August 3-September 21).


Dracula: world premiere of US composer Hayden Wayne’s contemporary opera (September 5).


The 24th International Jazz Festival (October).


Festival of Advent and Christmas Music (December 1-3).
