UK travellers to Ireland have been urged to stay indoors for much of today due to “severe” weather conditions across the country.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office issued revised travel advice after Irish authorities advised people to should remain indoors until 3pm.
“A red weather warning is in place across the country, public transport has been suspended and Dublin and Cork airports are closed,” the FCO said.
“For further information on how your travel may be affected in the coming days, you should check with your travel provider before travelling to your point of departure, monitor local media and weather reports from the Irish Meteorological Service.”
Aer Lingus and Ryanair flights across Ireland have been grounded today.
The Irish flag carrier plans to operate the majority of inbound transatlantic flights but this is subject to change.
Aer Lingus plans for a return to full operations on Saturday with all flights from the US expected to arrive as scheduled from early in the morning.
