A focus in reducing disruptive airline passengers as part of the government’s planned new aviation strategy has been welcomed by trade body UKHospitality.
The issue of excessive consumption of alcohol has hit the headlines following a number of high profile cases of passengers forcing flights to be diverted.
UKHospitality has joined signatories of a UK airlines initiative to tackle disruptive passenger behaviour.
Chief executive Kate Nicholls said: “We are active contributors to the debate, to promote awareness of existing laws prohibiting the in-flight consumption of duty free purchases.
“Furthermore, our members have already acted to shape offers and sales strategies in airports to help reduce irresponsible consumption and to encourage the responsible enjoyment of alcohol that is often a perfectly acceptable part of many passengers’ holiday experience.”
She added: “Importantly, the [aviation] strategy also looks at improving connectivity between airports and other transport hubs.
“This is key to the wider hotels, hospitality and tourism sector, as any improvements in delivering smoother journeys make for an even more attractive part of the UK’s tourism offer.”
