THEnumberof town-house hotels in the UK has increased five-fold to 51 properties in the past decade, according to TRI Hospitality Consulting.
Joint managing director Trevor Ward said: “These figures predict we can expect to see a definite growth in this area as developers find opportunities for creating traditional hotels even harder to come by.”
TRI defined a town-house hotel as a property with around 50 rooms, limited restaurant and leisure facilities and an individual style and decor.
TRI estimates that in 1998 the UK’s 51 hotels in this sector generated a total revenue of £78m and achieved an average room occupancy of 79%.
The company said nearly 60% of the properties were in London. In 1998 the London hotels achieved an average room occupancy of 83%, and an average room rate of £181 a night.
Outside London, the figures achieved were 70.3% and £100 respectively.
