Kaleidoscope has best year to date for late bookings

Escorted tours specialist Kaleidoscope Travel Group said it is on track to have its best year in terms of late bookings.

Chief executive officer William Burton said following a slow start to the year for the group, which owns Travelsphere, Page and Moy and Just You, sales have picked up since February, and have out-performed 2008.

He said that between April 1 and June 30, the group sold more than 90% of its ocean and river cruise capacity for the season, while trade sales for Page and Moy were up 159% compared with the same period last year.

Just You, which launched on June 1, is gaining market share, while Travelsphere, which has unveiled a new brand identity, has seen a 47% rise in bookings over the same period in 2008.

Burton said: “We’ve adapted quickly to tough market conditions, listened to customers, and embraced the trade more closely than before.”

In March, the group announced it was restructuring to save £1.5 million a year. At the time, Burton said he expected the process would result in the loss of about 60 jobs. Consultation over the redundancies is in progress.
