Norwegian Cruise Line has invited inspirational former army officer Major Phil Packer on the inaugural cruise of Norwegian Epic to be a charity ambassador.
Packer was told he would never walk again and yet he has since completed the London Marathon, climbed the Three Peaks and rowed the English Channel.
His charity fundraising efforts have been recognised by the Pride of Britain scheme, the BBC Sports Personality Awards and, most recently, the Queen – he is to receive an MBE.
Packer, who will be on board Norwegian Epic from June 22-24, will be sharing his journey from injury in Iraq to partial recovery.
His new goal is to raise £15 million to create and build the British Inspirational Trust, a residential centre for disabled young people.
The travel industry is the first business sector that Phil is turning to for assistance in achieving this goal.
The centre will help young people recover from disabilities and Phil hopes to enthuse and inspire them with the help of mentors from all walks of life including sport, business, culture, the arts and music.
Norwegian Cruise Line general manager Stephen Park said: “We are delighted Phil is able to join us.
“He is an inspirational character and I am sure that everyone on Norwegian Epic will enjoy meeting Phil and hearing about his own epic journeys.
“He is passionate about helping young people and their families and we believe the values he has shown in facing his own challenges match our own.”
