Police investigate armed robbery at Thomas Cook store

Police are investigating a suspected armed robbery at a Thomas Cook in East Grinstead.

Staff at the London Road store called police just before 10am this morning and reported that a man had entered the shop with what appeared to be a firearm five minutes earlier.

There were no customers in the shop at the time, the weapon was not used and no members of staff were injured.

The man reportedly detained the workers and took an unknown amount of money before leaving through the back of the shop.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 8in, aged 40-50 years old and wearing a baggy dark tracksuit with two thin white stripes down each arm and leg.

He was also wearing a blue or black baseball cap and has a pony tail, which may not have been his real hair, white gloves and sunglasses.

Police are urging members of the public who saw anything suspicious to call 0845 60 70 999.
