Lastminute.com offers special discounts to Thomas Cook customers

Holiday providers must offer customers the highest level of flexibility and financial security in the wake of the Thomas Cook crash.

The call came from lastminute.com, the eighth largest Atol holder in the UK, after the turmoil caused by the failure.

Thomas Cook customers and gift cardholders are being offered discounts of up to £500 by the online dynamic packaging specialist.

A range of flexible payment methods are being provided to secure summer 2020 holidays for those awaiting refunds from the Civil Aviation Authority, which could take up to two months.

The company has also introduced a ‘Brexit price promise’ to assure customers that the cost of their trip will not rise as a result of exchange rate fluctuations.

A poll by the online travel provider found that 40% of 1,000 people asked opt to book package holidays for speed and ease, followed by price at 36%.

The safety of booking everything with one source was also a key reason (23%).

Important criteria for selecting which holiday provider to book with included value for money (90%), high quality accommodation and transport (88%), and being a trusted brand (88%).

Lastminute.com UK and Ireland country director Reigo Eljas said: “The traditional package holiday people associate the term with, does not answer the needs of today’s customers.

“Travellers want to do their own thing, feel independent and in control of their own holidays, but at the same time still benefit from all the value package holidays offer, including financial security, repatriation, savings and customer support.

“We strongly believe that our product offering and the dynamic nature of our packaging technology will keep on growing and helping people to explore the world just as they prefer to do it.”
