Hovertravel eyes agent bookings for private charters

Commercial hovercraft service Hovertravel is hoping to work with agents selling private charters to the Isle of Wight.

The company sells trips from Portsmouth to Ryde in the Isle of Wight.

Managing director Neil Chapman said the company began working with the trade five months ago and had recently signed up travel agency and ferry consolidator A1 Ferries.

It now aims to work with more agents, particularly those who want to charter a whole hovercraft for groups or corporate events. The company is offering commission of 9%-10%.

He said: “We are finding the trade is keen to look at something different like this.

“From a trade point of view the business that we are looking for is corporate, for private charters.”

Chapman said the domestic market was growing and that the company, which offers services every half an hour, had increased its market share by 7% this year.
