USAIRWAYS is to re-equip its UK fleet from next June with the introduction of Airbus A330s in place of Boeing 767s.
The switch allows the airline to introduce first-class cabins into aircraft for the first time from Gatwick and Manchester (Travel Weekly May 3).
From June 16, the A330 will take over from the 203-seater B767 on one of the carrier’s two daily flights to Philadelphia from Gatwick. The second service will be upgraded in winter 2000.
Vice-president international Mark Schwab said US Airways has seven confirmed orders for the A330 to use on its European fleet next year.
The carrier is also confirming seven more aircraft to enhance future European flights.
Schwab said the number of first-class seats and their design will be unveiled in November.
