Korean Air starts ‘zoned’ boarding of flights to ensure social distancing

Passengers seated at the back of the aircraft will board first as part of new social distancing measures introduced by Korean Air.

Each aircraft is being sub-divided into three to four zones depending on its size.

The zone number will be printed on boarding passes so that travellers can check their boarding order.

Passengers with infants or children, the elderly and those needing special assistance will be able to pre-board regardless of the zone number, while rear row passengers board first.

The ‘back to front’ boarding aims to minimise contact between passengers.

Floor markers at the airport gate for international flights will  emphasise social distancing measures that are in place

“These procedures form part of the social distancing initiatives to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as boarding from   back to front helps to minimise contact between passengers,” the airline said.

Korean Air also requires all passengers and staff to wear face masks and conducts temperature checks on flights. Protective gowns and goggles are being provided to cabin crew.
