Butlin’s invests £25m in new hotel

Butlin’s is investing £25 million in a new hotel at its Bognor Regis resort.

The Wave Hotel will feature 215 bedrooms and 29 apartments spread over eight storeys, and is due to open in May, 2012.

The hotel is the third at the Bognor Regis site, following the opening of the Shoreline and Ocean Hotel and Spa in recent years. The company is now looking at extending the hotel concept to its other sites, in Skegness and Minehead.

Mike Crowther, Butlin’s operations director, said the new hotel would particularly appeal to families with children aged 8-14.

It will have separate children’s bedrooms, with neon-lit bunk beds featuring their own TV screens and DVD players, an underwater-themed gaming room and a Kindle library.

“Customer feedback is so important to us and we have used it to guide us with the development of all aspects of Wave,” Crowther said.

“We firmly believe that the modern, funky design of Wave mixed with the brand new hotel features will further heighten the Butlins family experience for 2012.”

Allan Lambert, head of sales for Butlin’s parent company Bourne Leisure, said the new hotel was a symbol of the brand’s continuing evolution, and said the new hotel would represent a further opportunity for the trade.

“Our hotel product is high-value, so the earning potential for agents is excellent,” he said.

“We will ensure they are among the first to experience the new hotel, as they have really embraced the concept so far.”
