More than 76% of flights by North American airlines arrived on time in March, down three percentage points on the previous month.
US Airways and Delta Air Lines were the most punctual of the major carriers while Hawaiian Airlines topped league for on time arrivals, according to data from travel information service FlightStats.
“United Airlines had widespread and persistent issues related to the final merging of United and Continental operations but managed to avoid unusually high levels of cancellations and excessive delays,” the company’s report for March said.
“American Airlines turned in a second month of solid on-time performance.”
Smaller, regional European airlines turned in strong performances in March with Aegean and Canary Islands regional carrier Naysa leading the way.
The average on time performance for 19 airlines tracked was an “exceptional” 84.42% in March up markedly from February’s 79.32%, and January’s 82.82%.
Bmibaby came tenth in the league with 91.75% of flights arriving on time.
