As the majority shareholder in Somak Holidays, I was somewhat perturbed this morning to read “Somak up for grabs as part of expansion” on your front page.
I should like to reassure all independent agents, with whom we are in the process of forming even closer ties as part of our new initiative, the Somak 1,000 Club, that Somak is most definitely not seeking to sell.
In common with most independent tour operators, we have been flattered to have been approached several times over the past few months by larger companies seeking to buy. Following good business practice, we have had discussions with those companies. We have also looked at the possibility of purchasing or working in tandem with other companies. One should always be open to new ideas if one is to stay ahead in the travel industry.
I am firmly of the opinion, however, that the fact that Somak Holidays (established now for 32 years) is an independent, family-run company is a major factor in its success to date.
I do hope that this puts any rumours started by your article to rest. Sadhana Sofat
