No plans to change commission, says Carnival

Carnival Cruise Line has said it has no plans to change its commission structure after Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line both decided to cut their base commission from as much as 15% to 10% in the last fortnight.

Adolfo Pérez, managing director of Carnival for UK and Ireland, said: “We have no plans to change our commission structure for 2013 at this time. As per our normal business process we will review 2014 at some point in 2013.

“We have big goals for 2013 and are looking to rely heavily on the trade for their support.”

Carnival currently offers commission ranging from 10% to 15% based on productivity.

The pledge not to reduce agent payments follows two of the UK’s largest travel agent consortia, Advantage and the Travel Network Group, joining forces to lobby against reductions in commission at Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. Midcounties Co-op Travel, a part of Advantage, has since backed the lobby against the cuts.
