Thomson and First Choice to recruit more than 900 overseas staff

Thomson and First Choice are to recruit more than 900 staff for overseas roles.

The sister tour operator brands, both owned by Tui Travel UK, will launch a recruitment drive this Saturday, November 3.

Roles available overseas range from holiday advisors and children’s representatives to resort team leaders, sports coaches and entertainers in short and medium-haul destinations. They include opportunities to travel as well as to study for National Vocational Qualifications and apprenticeships.

The company, which employs more staff around the world than any other holiday firm, says it is looking for candidates with the right ‘can do’ attitude to acquire new skills, while an outgoing personality and good decision-making qualities will also be an advantage.

Thomson and First Choice recently became the first tour operator to introduce NVQ Level 2 diplomas in tour operations, and job applicants would be able to study for this qualification. The programme has been certified by City & Guilds so both managers and holiday advisors can gain professional qualifications.

Ian Chapman, director of holiday experience for Thomson and First Choice, said: “The travel industry has long been a big employer in the UK and it’s a fantastic sector to work in, offering people exciting career paths for a rewarding future.”

The company also recruits apprentices throughout the year in retail, childcare, head office and in airline engineering. Since 2006, Tui Travel UK & Ireland has trained more than 2,000 apprentices, with 47% still employed by the business.

Also being accepted now are applications for the 2013-2014 student placement schemes. This is a 12 month placement in the ecommerce or commercial business areas for existing students studying a degree.
