THE ENGLISH Tourism Council has issued a guide aimed at helping to preserve historic towns that are popular with tourists.
The publication, Making The Connections, calls for an integrated approach to the problem involving different council departments, businesses, residents and visitors.
Tourism minister Janet Anderson says in the report: “One of the problems associated with tourism is the effect of large numbers of visitors on an area. Too many people in one place at one time can damage the local environment, alienate the community and reduce the quality of the experience forvisitors.”
