Thomson hit by Bowden-Doyle resignation

THE upheaval at Thomson Travel Group has continued with the resignation of Richard Bowden-Doyle and departure of other senior directors.

Bowden-Doyle, former managing director of Thomson Holidays and UK distribution, quit after first accepting, and then rejecting the new role of director of change programme.

Thomson stressed that Bowden-Doyle did not view it as a lesser role – which observers regarded as demotion – but wanted a change in direction.

Information systems director Mike Moore, who worked with Bowden-Doyle on the internal review, has been appointed to the role.

Lunn Poly customer innovations director Peter Povey will leave the group at the end of this month with property and estates director Glyn Davies departing in early summer.

UK distribution managing director Nigel David insisted both departures were amicable with Povey expected to remain on a consultancy basis.

In a further development, Specialist Holidays managing director Andy Perrin has started a three-month review of the business by appointing Simply Travel MD Steve Rushton as director of change for the division. He will be responsible for merging back-office departments, which are expected to see job losses.

“It’s unsettling for staff but until we look at the strengths and weaknesses of each business, it’s impossible to say what will happen,” said Perrin.

Meanwhile, Magic Travel Group managing director Joanna Edmunds has resigned while Crystal product director Debbie Marshall has been promoted to replace Perrin as the operator’s MD.
